Summary:
Peace Pipe by Freddie Sanders
Description:

Four river cane stems each painted red, black, yellow, and white. Bowl of pipe is thin but large. A snake is mounted around the rim of the bowl. Snake is scrapped with a design to resemble a black snake. A turtle is also mounted to the side of the bowl. Tan/brown in color. Dimensions: Height: 3 inches Width: 11.5 inches Depth: 11.5 inches

Traditional Knowledge:

This peace pipe is probably among the most traditional that can ever be collected among the Catawba potters. Without legs, it harkens back to a time when the Catawba did not have tables. It is uniquely decorated with a black snake and a turtle, creatues that are not usually associated with a peace pipe.
